Vienna Awards 2014

So.

Flea market findings: Crystal Glasses

For as long as I´m in Vienna, I always wanted to visit the big fleamarket that´s part of the Naschmarkt every Saturday, but I got told that I had to be there pretty early to get some of the good stuff - and by early, I mean between 7 and 8 AM. That sounded way too cruel for me to get up that early on a Saturday for a long time, but I finally managed to do it. So yesterday, I really got up and went there and I have to say, I wasn´t disappointed at all. Of course there is a lot of crap offered as well, but if you look closely, you´ll find some real gems. We´ve spent two hours looking around and I found 4 amaaaaaazing crystal glasses with a gold trimming for 12 €, 4 matching champagne glasses for 5 € and a vintage crab brooch for 10 € (which was kind of a compulsive buy, but I love it anyways).
No matter what you´re looking for, you´re gonna find it at this huge fleamarket, especially when it comes to glassware. Can´t wait to serve some cocktails to my friends in my new crystal glasses!

The Vienna Experience. Shanghai Tan

pic via Shanghai Tan

Here we go, another round of the Vienna Experience. Shanghai Tan is an Asian restaurant in Vienna´s 6th district in the Gumpendorferstrasse. I wanted to go there for a long time now, since I love Asian food and eat sushi around 2-3 times a week and only heard great stuff about the place.
I really loved the cozy, dark and mystic atmosphere - there are hundreds of lamps hanging down the ceilings that flood the interior with dimmed, red light. Shanghai Tan has two floors, the ground level with tables that are of normal height, and a basement with lots of small lounges and lower teatables. This might not be the most comfortable position to eat in, especially for taller people, but it certainly is the cooler way to have your dinner. You can even get rid of your shoes and sit cross-legged on the benches.

Modebloggerflohmarkt

There are sooo many great fleamarkets in Vienna, but ever since I´m living here, I didn´t have time to participate in one. But now, the time has come to say goodbye to some of my favorite pieces - if I could, I would hold on to them forever but I think it´s unhealthy for mind and soul to keep too many things inside your closet. So people, come and visit me next Saturday at the burnLab in Vienna, where you can purchase some really cool things from my closet - e.g. my Steve Madden sandals that I´ve worn only ONCE or some designer glasses by Dsquared and some BRANDNEW, never worn bags from Longchamp.  For more info´s check out the Facebook event here.

This is some of the stuff I will be selling, soooo goooo and meet me there guys, looking forward to seeing you!

The Vienna Experience. Freiraum

It´s been a while since I wrote the last post about my "Vienna Experience" but last week I decided to make another attempt and brought my camera to "Freiraum", where I met up with my friends. I think blogs are a great resource when it comes to finding new restaurants and I´m always looking on the blogs from Vienna for tips on where to go. So, about Freiraum.

Weekend Plans

After commuting between Vienna and Salzburg almost every weekend since I live here, I´m very excited to spend the next two days in town. Me and my babe have lots of fun things planned, including a dinner at famous "Kim kocht" (we´ve been on the waitlist for 4 months until we got this table),
a party at Kattus champagne producer, a shopping spree at the designer outlet in Parndorf and some drinks/dinner with our closest friends at Figls. Since Vicky is not only my friend but my bad conscious as well and has the self discipline of a soldier when it comes to doing sports (see her post about running outdoors in winter here), I´m planning to get some thermo sportswear at the Nike or Adidas outlet and maybe we´ll visit Michael Kors and Diesel as well :) What are your plans for this weekend? Looking forward to something as well?

Winter im MQ.

I met up with Vicky yesterday for some Punsch and chitchat at the wintermarket at Museums Quarter in Vienna, "Winter im MQ". I love the icepavillions that they have built up and the interior is lined with sheep skin - so cozy to sit there with a hot punsch! Every café has it´s own pavillion and serves pure deliciousness in form of punsch, hot wine and other goodies. There is also a curling track and some light installations as well as the "Winter Sounds" with live DJ´s for entertainment. I have to admit that the overall feeling was not very winterly because it is just too warm and there is no snow at all - but when we were sitting inside the pavillion, I felt like somewhere in the middle of iceland. If you are in Vienna before Christmas, you should definitely visit Winter im MQ!

Vienna, for women only

I love my parents and my whole family to death, they are just the best people in the world. So when I decided to move to Vienna, it really wasn´t easy for all of us - leaving the people that mean most to me, including my little brother and my boyfriend behind and starting something completely new on my own. But to make my experience as pleasurable as possible, my daddy got me this chic little guide to Vienna´s hotspots - for women only. It´s the perfect book for every girl that lives in Vienna or  just visits for a city trip, giving lots of tips on where to shop, go for dinner or take in some culture. There are also some interviews with interesting women that live here as well with their view on Vienna. An additional plus is the cute gold and red cover - sooo pretty.
In my situation, this was the perfect gift and I always carry it with me - thank you dad!

the vienna experience. Kurt Frozen Yoghurt

today i want to continue with my posting series about cool locations in vienna. i think my readers who are from vienna are laughing everytime they see another "hotspot" that i present on my blog because most of these restaurants/bars are very well known around here - but for me, even after 3 months living here, more or less every single spot that i discover is new and exciting. what i love about this city is that everything seems so cool here, so different from what i was used to (i come from a small town originally) and the gastronomy scene has figured out very creative ways to stand out from the millions of bars, restaurants and fusion stores.
so far, so good.

as for kurt frozen yogurt - i love the concept of having something super super yummy but at the same time not too unhealthy, that´s if you make the choice to have some healthy toppings and not brownies and caramel sauce like me :)
you can find kurt at three locations in vienna, at the schultergasse, krugerstrasse and ferstelpassage (that´s where i went).
i recommend taking a small portion, i had the medium one and it was the size of my normal dinners, especially with the sauce and brownie topping. you can choose from a wide range of toppings and pair them however you like.
will definitely be a returning - this time more cosmopolitan and cool because i already know the place :)

the vienna experience. mayerei im türkenschanzpark

as i already told you in the last post, i met up with my friend judith a while ago and we decided to go to a nice little bistro in the middle of the türkenschanzpark in the 18th district of vienna.
the restaurant is called "mayerei im türkenschanzpark" and it´s surrounded by flowers, palms and people who stroll through the park, play games and do sports.
i love that they offer a wide range of juices that are being purchased from a local bio-farmer.
also, you can choose from a huge range of small dishes - we decided to mix two salads together and the outcome was pretty good - just look at the pics below.
so if you wanna grab a quick snack and combine it with a walk, the mayerei is the place to go.

the vienna experience. Tel Aviv.

another edition of the "vienna experience". bit by bit, my friends start to introduce me to the real hotspots of vienna and i love it! tel aviv beach is a pretty crowded place because people seem to really like it there, for obvious reasons. we got there around 7PM and already had to wait a while for a table, although the outdoor area is pretty big and offers a lot of seating possibilites.
so far, one of the best places i´ve been to!

the vienna experience. LOCATION CHECK #3

and here comes another favorite of mine - ever since i moved to vienna i started a posting series about my favorite restaurants and other hot spots around town. today i want to present to you: the glacisbeisl.

it´s one of my favourite restaurants because i can easily go there for lunch in my break during the weeks, but it´s also located very near the mariahilfer street, which is a famous shopping area here in vienna.
these days it´s been super hot and sunny and i really enjoy the fresh air underneath the trees of this great venue - the garden of the glacisbeisl is a real gift and also very romantic in an urban kind of way.

the vienna experience. LOCATION CHECK #2

what i started last week was a posting series about locations in vienna such as bars, restaurants and other cool stuff and i already showed you a favourite bistro of mine, das heinz.
today i want to share a really special sushi experience with you. my friends chris and judith took me out to a special asian restaurant once, and i can still taste the yummy sushi when i think back.

NEON RESTAURANT
Gürtelbogen 215/216
19, Heiligenstädter Str. 29-31

the asian restaurant "NEON" is located near my apartment in the 9th district of vienna, which is perfect for me as i love love love asian food (i think even more than italian food).
the interior of the restaurant live´s up to it´s name as everything is designed in neon colors which i don´t know if they are really perfect for a nice dinner - but i can´t say anything about that really because we were sitting outside.

TO TRY

for starters i had the satay skewers with peanut sauce - soooo delicious!
then i had various sorts of sushi which was really the best one i ever had (and i am reeeeeallyyy picky when it comes to raw fish), just take a look at my insta pictures:

SPECIAL

what i love most about the neon - you can always choose the all you can eat option, but it´s different than in other restaurants where you can eat only from a buffet - neon offers this special treat A LA CARTE!
isn´t this incredible? order as many dishes from the menu as you like and pay 17,90 €!!!

definitely will be a returning customer...

girls night reloaded.

last week, one of my favorite bloggers and at the same time new friend vicky from bikinis & passports invited us (me, sonja from fashiontweed and our good friend judith) again for a girls night to her new apartment. not only is the apartment amazing but vicky managed to decorate the place with her great sense of style already and i simply love her gorgeous rooftop terrace.

for me it is so nice to have found such sweet girls that i can hang out with in vienna and we all enjoy our girly nights - although i really miss my babe and look forward to when he´s joining me in our new hometown.

until then - here´s to more girls nights and more wine!

(thanks to vicky for these amazing pics)

XOXO
